 It has been said “Many hands make light work”. As a grassroots organization, MASH relies on a volunteer network to help us meet the needs of the families we serve. Whether you can assist us on a regular basis or have only a day, or an hour, there are volunteer opportunities to suit your schedule.
Below is a list of the many opportunities for you to help your fellow neighbor.
Bake a cake for a child’s birthday. Provide a small gift or two…
“Adopt” a family: The holidays are a wonderful time for individuals or groups to give to those who have so little. You may also want to consider making packages with items the families would need as they leave the MASH program and start their new life in their own home.
Become an advocate: With training from MASH you can speak to organizations and schools on the many important programs of MASH.
Be a mentor: Do you have a special skill or vocation that would enhance the lives of our families? Some areas of need are computer skills, budgeting, and healthy and price conscious cooking.
Join our hospitality crew: Help is always needed preparing the shelter sites for incoming families. Get a crew together (or just volunteer to join a crew) to clean a unit and prepare hospitality baskets and donated books to give families a “fresh” start.
Special Events: Assist us in the planning and preparation of a special event.
Shelter Maintenance: Are you a handyman (or handywomen) at heart? Assistance is always needed for small repairs on our properties.
Be a Coordinator with your company or organization: Organize a volunteer day with your co-workers. Or, sponsor a “dress down day” or another event at work to raise funds for MASH. People love to help…they just need to be asked. If you need help with coordination of the event, or supplies, assistance can be given through the MASH office.
Maybe you have your own idea for a way to help a child or family living in one of our shelters. Call us to talk about it. The opportunities are endless, as are our needs.
